The Arts Certificate is awarded to graduating seniors who have made a significant contribution to the extra-curricular arts at Johns Hopkins in one of the following areas: dance, digital media, fine/visual arts, music, or theater. Students complete a year-long independent project that uses their talent and technique to produce an original work of art or artistic project. The experience is designed to be a capstone that both reflects and grows out of a student’s artistic work at Johns Hopkins, and projects range from technical explorations of Old Master paintings to investigations of the socio-political ramifications of documentary photography in the digital age. Students have also designed Arts Certificate projects around internships at the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Walters Art Museum, the American Visionary Art Museum, and numerous art-related non-profits and community organizations, such as Art with a Heart and Art on Purpose.
